Equipping Independent Learners

Middle School Curriculum

Students engage in core classes of Bible, Math, Science, History and English and are able to explore the Fine Arts, Foreign Language and the Computer Sciences during two elective periods.  Students participate in Physical Education classes three times per week. Below is a typical course of study for each grade.

 

6th Grade

  • New Testament Survey

  • Ancient and Medieval History

  • Anthology of Literature & Poetry including: A Wrinkle in Time, Beowulf, The Bronze Bow, Children’s Homer, additional summer reading

  • Arithmetic Course 1 or 2 from Prentice-Hall

  • Life Science and Lab

  • Physical Education

  • Art, Band, Choir, or Drama

  • Additional elective options: Creative Writing, Computer Science

7th Grade

  • Bible: The Life of Joseph and the Life of Christ

  • Geography - Eastern Hemisphere

  • Anthology of Literature & Poetry including: A Christmas Carol, Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, The Hiding Place, additional summer reading

  • Arithmetic Course 2 from Prentice-Hall or Pre-Algebra

  • Earth Science and Lab

  • Physical Education

  • Art, Band, Choir, or Drama

  • Additional elective options: French, Spanish, Set Production, Robotics, Web Page Design

8th Grade

  • Bible: Proverbs/Wisdom Literature and Pilgrim’s Progress

  • U.S. History

  • Anthology of Literature & Poetry including: To Kill a Mockingbird, Under a War Torn Sky, Much Ado About Nothing, Animal Farm, additional summer reading

  • Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1

  • Physical Science and Lab

  • Physical Education

  • Art, Band, Choir, or Drama

  • Additional elective options: French, Spanish, Set Production, Robotics, Computer Programming
